Foods That Help Productivity
It is pretty much common knowledge that the foods we eat can help or hurt our health. For example, healthcare experts tell us to stay away from sugary, fatty foods because they can lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, or stroke.
But foods can have other impacts on our health also because the wrong kind cannot supply us with the energy we need to be productive at work. So, if you need more energy at work, here are a few foods to eat instead of those crackers, candy bars and chips from the vending machine.
1. Blueberries
Blueberries offer a range of health benefits – they can help with memory, help you to lose weight, and may even be beneficial in preventing Alzheimer’s. Research has shown that blueberries, because of a high amount of flavenoids, can actually help to give a boost to memory. Other substances in blueberries called catechins may help to accelerate weight loss in the abdomen by about 70 percent.
2. Popcorn.
Yes, it’s true, popcorn is actually good for you. It is high in fiber and also complex carbohydrates, which give your body a lot of energy. Complex carbohydrates are especially beneficial because they are used by your body only gradually so that their sugars are only released gradually into your bloodstream. That means you get energy from them over a longer period of time. Popcorn is low in fat and calories – if you don’t pour butter all over it. A good, healthy substitute for butter on your popcorn is olive oil. Popcorn is recommended by the National Cancer Institute, the American Dental Association, and the Academy of Nutrition
3. Dark chocolate
Another good food to help you at work is dark chocolate. Research has shown that the flavanol in the chocolate actually helps to improve the flow of blood to the brain, which helps you think better. In addition, dark chocolate also has caffeine, which, as we all know, is a stimulant. And, like blueberries, dark chocolate also is loaded with antioxidants.
4. Almonds and Spinach
Both of these foods have substances that help with brain functioning. Almonds are high in omega-3 fatty acids. A lack of omega-3 has been shown to play a part in symptoms of depression and just having a negative attitude. Spinach has the B-vitamin called folate, which boosts the circulation of blood to your brain and helps brain functioning.
