Senior Research Associate, Purification/Analytical Chemistry
W2 Contract
Salary Range: $104,000 - $124,800 per year
Location: South San Francisco, CA - Onsite Role
Job Summary:
The ideal candidate will have experience in purifying macrocyclic peptides and/or small molecules, as well as strong expertise in liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, and automated liquid handling systems. A proven track record of productivity and project ownership, along with a solid understanding of small molecules and peptide purification and analysis techniques, is essential.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform semi-to-large-scale purification of macrocyclic peptides and/or small molecules on mg to gram using preparative LC/MS and analytical UPLC/MS.
- Optimize and support high-throughput purification workflows using prep-LC/MS and analytical LC/MS platforms, with some method development.
- Prepare samples using automated liquid handling systems.
- Deliver purified compounds to Compound Management team in either solid or liquid form, as determined by program needs.
- Represent the Purification/Analytical Chemistry team by sharing data and results with internal and external stakeholders as needed.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of lab activities; analyze data, generate reports, and communicate findings to cross-functional teams.
- Assist in drafting and revising protocols, methods, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) under guidance. Manage ordering of chemicals and consumables; perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and coordination of service for lab instruments.
- Support broader lab activities such as synthesis, compound inventory management, and compound dispensing as needed.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- BA degree, at minimum, in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline. A Master's Degree is a plus.
- 8+ years of analytical chemistry experience
- Proven experience in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting LC/MS and preparative LC/MS systems, including method development and data analysis.
- Hands-on experience with Waters SFC/MS, ACQUITY UPLC, QDa Mass Detector, Prep Auto Purification LC/MS System, Empower, MassLynx, Sirius miniTasker, GeneVac, and/or Lyophilizer preferred.
- Familiarity with structure elucidation using mass spectrometry is a plus.
- A background in organic synthesis and/or solid-phase peptide chemistry is a plus.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong data documentation skills and the ability to accurately follow written protocols and verbal instructions.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset; able to thrive in a team-oriented environment.
- Must be able and willing to work at lab bench/fume hood for the majority of the workday
- Bachelor's degree required with 3 years of relevant experience in contracts administrative role (procurement, contract management, or purchasing departments) pharmaceuticals or biopharma industry.
- Track record of being a collaborative team player and business partner, building positive partnerships and adaptive to meet the needs of a growing business.
- Strong critical thinker and problem solver with a proactive mindset to build and manage processes and systems that drive accountability and results.
- Demonstrated ability to influence management and key business partners without authority.
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and prioritize effectively to deliver results within reasonably established timelines.

- Proficient in Powerpoint, Excel, Word, and variety of project management (ie, smartsheets) and communication and administrative platforms (ie, Teams, contracts management system, etc).
