Overview

Senior Research Associate, Cell Culture Research Operations

W2 Contract-to-Hire

Salary Range: $83,200 - $104,000 per year

Location: Redwood City, CA - Onsite Role

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Routinely perform hands-on cell culture of a variety of cells, including expansion, freezing, and documenting inventory in an electronic notebook (Benchling). Develop methods to improve efficiency and optimize processes.
  • Regularly monitor cell growth and viability in culture flasks, dishes, or plates. Perform cell passaging at appropriate intervals to maintain healthy cell populations.
  • Support urgent and critical requests in our cell culture lab and deliver materials to support key go-no-go decisions in different early discovery programs.
  • Prepare protocols and SOPs as needed and document all cell culture findings in Benchling.
  • Frequently collaborate with multiple departments to assess cell line needs with strict adherence to timelines.
  • Help shape the team as it evolves and grows with the organization.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • B.S./M.S. degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Cancer Biology, or related life science field with 2+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in cell culture; biopharmaceutical industry experience is preferred
  • Extensive experience in aseptic technique, carrying multiple cell lines concurrently, media preparation, maintenance of mammalian cell cultures, and cryopreservation of cells
  • Direct experience developing and troubleshooting mammalian cell culture systems and efficiently banking a variety of tissue and cell types
  • Experience using an Electronic Notebook (Benchling) to register, monitor inventory, perform workflows, and use search functions.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with excellent record-keeping, problem-solving, and written/verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and troubleshoot issues. Excellent time-management skills, ability to prioritize, remain calm under pressure, and execute goals in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiar with standard laboratory equipment like microscopes, pipettes, centrifuges, and cell counters.
  • Experienced with various molecular biology and cellular techniques, such as mammalian cell culture, transduction methods, and 2D and 3D cell culture, is highly desirable.
  • Able to perform operations and maintenance tasks independently.
  • Positive attitude and ability to be flexible, collaborative, and adaptable to changing priorities
