Senior Data and Automation Engineer, Enterprise Applications
W2 Contract
Pay Rate: $70 - $90 per hour
Location: Redwood City, CA - Remote Role
Job Summary:
Finance, Human Resources, Procurement, Legal, Compliance, and Commercial Operations run on separate enterprise systems, and the teams that depend on them need data they can trust. As a temporary, hands-on Senior Data Engineer, you will build the curated datasets, integrations, and automation that connect those systems on Databricks, Snowflake, and related analytics platforms, with expense management, Risk analytics, Supply chain planning, and learning analytics as representative examples. You will work independently with G&A business owners and leave behind governed, documented data products that our long-term support teams can run. This individual contributor position will report into Information Sciences Enterprise Systems leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead design and delivery of curated data products across Databricks, Snowflake, and related platforms, including ingestion, transformation, quality checks, and reusable data models.
- Partner with G&A business owners to define analytics requirements, key performance indicators, data definitions, and priority use cases across Finance, Human Resources, Procurement, Legal, Compliance, and Commercial Operations.
- Develop reliable pipelines and integrations from enterprise applications, data files, APIs, Fivetran or similar ingestion tools, middleware, and third-party sources into governed datasets.
- Create dashboards, metrics layers, and insight products for broad G&A analytics, including examples such as expense management, learning analytics, gross-to-net reporting, budgeting, and operational reporting.
- Establish data curation standards for naming, lineage, documentation, access controls, data quality, and handoff to long-term support teams.
- Identify and deliver automation and integration opportunities using Workato, Moveworks, middleware, or similar tools to reduce manual data preparation, reconciliation, reporting, and workflow handoffs.
- Evaluate and apply artificial intelligence tools responsibly to simplify work processes, improve data stewardship, and accelerate analytics delivery.
- Work with Information Security, Compliance, Legal, and data owners to protect sensitive information and align with applicable privacy, governance, and access requirements.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in data engineering, computer science, information systems, business analytics, or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, enterprise analytics, business systems, integration, automation, or data product delivery.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks, Snowflake, SQL, Python or PySpark, Delta Lake, Fivetran or similar data ingestion tools, and modern data lakehouse or warehouse patterns.
- Experience designing curated datasets, semantic models, data quality rules, and documentation that make enterprise data usable for business teams.
- Experience integrating data across enterprise systems using APIs, flat files, middleware or integration platform as a service (iPaaS) tools, and reporting platforms, including reverse extract, transform, load (reverse ETL) or data activation patterns that move curated data and insights back into business systems.
- Familiarity with G&A processes and systems, including NetSuite, Coupa, Concur, Workday Adaptive, Ironclad, Emtrain, Compliance Wire, or similar Finance, Procurement, Human Resources, Legal, learning, compliance, and planning platforms.
- Experience using automation or integration platforms such as Workato, Moveworks, middleware, iPaaS, or similar tools to streamline business processes.
- Ability to translate ambiguous business needs into clear technical requirements, delivery plans, and measurable outcomes.
- Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced environment while collaborating effectively with business, technology, compliance, and security partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with ERP platforms beyond NetSuite, including system migrations or re-pointing integrations and data pipelines when applications change.
- Experience in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, life sciences, or another regulated environment.
- Experience delivering analytics across multiple G&A functions, such as expense management, learning, and workforce metrics.
- Experience using Unity Catalog, Snowflake governance, workflow orchestration, data lineage, data governance, or access management capabilities.
- Experience applying AI, machine learning, or generative AI to analytics workflows, automation, knowledge retrieval, or operational process improvement.
