Consultant, Senior Animal Care Technician

W2 Contract

Pay Rate: $33 - $43 per hour

Location: South San Francisco, CA - Onsite Role

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for colony management, managing internal animal colonies, and providing husbandry care for our research animals following standardized laboratory procedures
• Perform animal husbandry duties to maintain quality, traceability, and health of research animals, including but not limited to breeding, ear tagging, genotyping, and weaning.
• Maintain detailed husbandry and breeding records using a colony management software (Climb)
• Receive and house animals from vendors according to documented processes (1-2 times/week, 10-250 animals)
• Provide support for changing cages and daily health and welfare observations.
• Perform euthanasia procedures as directed.
• Develop an understanding of and regularly utilize available information resources and systems (e.g., SOPs, policies, computer applications)
• Accurate and timely recording of work time by clocking in and out using designated timekeeping systems. Adherence to company timekeeping policies, including rules regarding overtime, meal breaks, and reporting procedures for any discrepancies

Requirements and Qualifications:

• At least 5+ years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
• Hands-on expertise in working with mice and rats, with an extensive background in animal husbandry, restraint, and handling
• Must have a strong work ethic, ability to multitask, and enthusiasm for animal work, and possess a strong attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to be proficient in data entry in a colony management software
• Proficient in computer applications such as MS Excel
• Self-motivated to look for ways to improve and promote quality.
• Proficiency in animal welfare and overall knowledge of animal care and use
