What are the Most In-Demand IT Jobs?

Posted June 5th, 2015

The employment website Glassdoor recently released its report of the 25 most lucrative and in-demand jobs for 2015. And not surprisingly, the list is dominated by tech jobs. Regardless of whether you are actively seeking employment, flirting with a job change, or simply vested in the tech industry, it’s important to know what kind of professionals are being hired and what kind of money they are being offered. We’ve pulled out the 12 relevant tech jobs below:

1. Software Architect – $130,891
2. Software Development Manager – $123,747
3. Solutions Architect – $121,522
4. IT Manager – $115,642
5. Product Manager – $113,959
6. Data Scientist – $105,395
7. Security Engineer – $102,749
8. QA Manager – $101,330
9. Computer Hardware Engineer – $101,154
10. Database Administrator – $97,258
11. Software Engineer – $96,392
12. Sales Engineer – $90,899

It’s exciting to see how many opportunities are available for a diverse range of IT professionals, and how salaries seem to be catching up fast to the real value of IT. With that being said, it’s important to consider this list in context.

Companies are actively recruiting for all of these positions, but that doesn’t mean they are taking any and all applicants. The reason that these positions are so in-demand is because they are also integral to today’s businesses. That means they are searching for the very best available talent and looking for candidates that can make a major impact over the long term. Anyone that hopes to snag one of these jobs is going to have to make a very positive impression.

It’s also important to realize that IT is fickle, and the skills that are relevant today could easily be irrelevant in 10 years, even five years. The best policy for IT professionals is always to pursue a broad and varied skill set rather than trying to pursue a very narrow course of expertise.

Finally, remember that compensation is not everything. Some of the numbers listed above may look dazzling, but making lots of money at a job you hate, working for a company where you have no future simply isn’t worth it. Before accepting any job, always consider its total impact on your personal and professional life, not just its impact on your pocketbook.
