HR Survey: What Employees REALLY Want
Posted December 17th, 2012
A recent survey has shown that companies are not keeping pace with worker preferences as far as job benefits.
The survey showed that having more flexibility at work and better benefits is as important to workers as pay. Most of the job candidates today are asking companies for more benefits than the companies now offer, according to the report. They want more flexibility in scheduling and where they work, along with more training and mentoring.
The findings are included in the survey “2012 HR Beat: A Survey of the Pulse of Today’s Global Workforce.”
If you are an employer, how can you leverage this information to your best advantage?
One way is to offer your employees more choices in terms of pay and benefits. Allow them more flexibility in their jobs, for example. Doing this will ultimately improve employee engagement and productivity.
Develop more of a social media presence so that you can better reach potential job candidates online. A recent report shows that almost 20 percent of people who have cell phones now do most of their job searching online. There are now electronic recruiting applications that allow companies to target job candidates online.
You also need to take a look at the composition of your workforce now. How old are your workers? Are you expecting a wave of retirements soon? If so, what are your plans for replacing these workers? Do you have the kinds of pay and benefits that will enable you to attract the kind of skilled workers you need? What kind of education and training programs do you offer? This will also require that you assess your benefits package as well to determine if it has the range of options needed to lure the best workers to your company.
Here’s a statistic all employers need to keep in mind – beginning in 2011, and for the next almost 20 years, 10,000 Baby Boomers a day will turn 65. Generation X is not big enough to fill all of the vacancies. So, to attract and keep the best of the bunch will require that you meet their needs.
